Since its inception, The Gnostic Centre has engaged in Green Practices for the sake of bringing in a balance and harmony in life. The Centre’s work culture places a high value on conservation of resources, recycling, creative use of waste, energy and water audit, etc.
At each of its campuses, the Gnostic Centre has engaged with the challenges posed by that particular environment. At Aravalis, the issue of soil erosion was dealt through check dams, and the barren denuded land was rejuvenated through organic cultivation. In the Himalayas, water shortage was addressed through taking multiple rainwater harvesting measures. At Delhi, the Centre has experimented with building materials, architecture, and energy conservation methods, besides organic farming. It has created a green oasis which attracts rare birds – allowing the Centre to hold a bird watching walk every winters. Even nilgais have occasionally made it their home!
All cultivation at The Gnostic Centre is done with organic methods. The Centre makes its own compost and organic pesticides. It is increasingly making use of seeds generated from organic cultivation of flowers and vegetables at the Centre.
The programs in Green Practices are completely hands-on. Training is provided in various aspects of Ecological living. The programs emanate from the Centre’s own work in these areas.
